Good morning and welcome to the last week of school!
Everyone needs to collect the items to return to school on Wednesday. Items are: Novel (Helen or Fredrick), SS textbook, any other textbooks, library books, any extra classroom books, Chromebook, and hot spot.
Today from 11am to 1 pm will be the last opportunity to show or discuss any work.
Tuesday I will be using online meetings to check in with the 8th graders on their speeches.
Wednesday I will be at the school and our drop off times are 4pm to 6pm.
-Graduates arrive by 6pm please so we can properly setup.
Thursday is the last day of the school year, maybe take a little family drive ;)
Please contact me if you do not have internet access or a device to access with (laptop, desktop, Chromebook, ect). Are you not quite ready for this switch to online learning? If you need a reliable way for your student to complete online work, please call the office at 209-847-0117 and we will work to find a solution.
Please do not hesitate to contact me by email. Even if its just to find how much progress your student has made on online assignments or if there is a problem accessing assignments. Email [email protected] to send me your preferred contact information.
Until our return to school, I have and will continue to make work available for home learning. Mr Tom made arrangements to be at school once a week Wednesdays from 9am-ish to 2pm-ish for in person/phone in help. I have posted a daily lesson plan sample on the new assignments tab . I will try to find and link helpful videos as much as possible.
Every Wednesday at 11am I will open a Google hangouts call for students to connect visually and/or audibly. They can access the call through google classroom, both programs are accessible through computers/laptops and mobile.
If students were not at school this week, their packet, supplies, and possessions are in the office.
ELA: Each Student received a novel to read, either "The Narrative of Frederick Douglass" or "Helen Keller the Story of my Life"(first 106 pages, the rest of the book is letters that their book report does not need to include) and 3 folders to use to create a tri-fold display of their work, there was an example layout provided. Each student took their Writing Journal home and should either choose from the prompts or make their own entries at least 3 times a week or a total of 7minimum by spring break. Spelling packets, Social studies work, and SS books were also sent home. Additionally the students were encouraged to 'rent" 2 books or more from the libraries available to them. Students should practice typing for at least an hour a week (Communication Fridays).
Math: Each student has their Unit classwork & should use the assigned Khan academy unit resources to complete 3-4 lessons each week. If too difficult/lost each student will have a "Skills" math packet that is similar to what they should be learning but has more directions available.
Science: 2 Stemscopedias went home for reading and there are assignments online. Additionally, students should explore something that interests them: learning code, building a thing, disassembling something, documentaries about the ocean, space, human interactions, ect. Additionally in this time there are home-school options such as cooking from recipes. Providing solid evidence of ScienceTechnologyEngineeringArtMathematics (STEAM) learning can earn science credit at this time.
